Listserve etiquette and guidelines
- Reserve listserve discussions for topics best suited to the medium.
- Note that emails that you send will be distributed to the entire listserve subscriber group, at the moderator's discretion, to invite responses and discussion. You will receive email transmissions from the group.
- Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply, deleting extra text at the bottom of your email.
- State concisely and clearly the specific topic in the subject line. This allows others to respond more appropriately to your posting.
- Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals—not to the entire list. Do this by using your e-mail application's forwarding option and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond.
- Include your email address with your signature so that subscribers can contact you directly if they wish to discuss something that they do not want others to read.
- Do not challenge or attack others. The discussions on the listserve are meant to stimulate conversation not to create contention.
- Do not post commercial messages. Contact people directly with products and services that you believe would help them.
