Solving the nation’s ongoing mental health and substance use crises takes innovation. That’s precisely what the CCBHC model allows — the flexibility for participating community-based clinics to expand their services and tailor mental health and substance use care to meet the individual needs of their communities.

Recent News: SAMHSA Announces New CCBHC Planning Grants, 10 New States Join CCBHC Demonstration
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced $15 million in planning grants for states interested in adopting the CCBHC model. This planning grant funding will help states develop and implement infrastructure needed to adopt the CCBHC model, including developing certification systems, establishing a prospective payment system (PPS) and preparing an application to participate in the CCBHC demonstration program. Grants will be awarded to up to 15 states. The application deadline is Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024.
In June, SAMHSA also announced the newest states included in the CCBHC Medicaid Demonstration Program, as part of the nationwide expansion of the CCBHC demonstration through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The selected states are Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The National Council congratulates the states that recently joined the CCBHC demonstration and looks forward to working with organizations and state officials to provide support. If your organization is in a state that wasn’t selected, our team is on hand to support you and your state officials with alternate planning efforts — from moving forward with the model under a Medicaid State Planning Amendment to preparing to reapply by Sept. 12.
