CoE Office Hour: Strategies for Improving Care Provided to LGBTQI Communities
Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) community experience greater health disparities and lack of access to high-quality care than do their non-LGBTQI counterparts. In a 2020 survey conducted by The Trevor Project, 48% of LGBTQI persons seriously considered attempting suicide in the past twelve months, with more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth having seriously considered suicide. With the CDC estimating 11% of the general population with suicidal ideation, the need for care is incredibly high for this population and only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please join us for our Office Hour session on Tuesday, March 16 from 3 to 4 p.m. ET to discuss strategies for improving care provided to LGBTQI communities. In this session, our panelists will explore the challenges LGBTQI individuals currently face in accessing high-quality health care and discuss opportunities for health providers to remove those barriers to increase access amidst the pandemic.
We invite you to share your challenges and solutions with providing services to LGBTQI communities, so we can guide each other in taking a step forward in improving these services, addressing their needs and providing more opportunities.
