Dimitrios Cavathas has served as CEO of HealthPort, a private nonprofit organization, since 2016. HealthPort is a SAMHSA-designated CCBHC and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Healthy People 2030 Champion that’s been serving the community for 45+ years. Cavathas oversees the $22-million organization and 178 employees that serve 2,000+ people in the Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester rural communities of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Services provided by HealthPort include primary care, health home services, outpatient behavioral health care, medicated-assisted treatment, substance abuse treatment, vocational services, psychosocial and residential rehabilitation, supportive housing, residential crisis beds, healthy food services and assertive community treatment teams.

Cavathas is an LCSW-Clinical, holds a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Treatment from the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) and is a subject matter expert on primary care integration and assertive community treatment. Cavathas was an adjunct associate professor at UMSSW for 11 years, where he taught advanced mental health and social policy at the graduate level. He has been in nonprofit executive leadership for 23 years in urban, suburban and rural settings. Cavathas currently serves on the board of advisors to UMSSW. In his leadership roles, Cavathas strives every day to promote health, happiness and recovery to all, which means the community and people that HealthPort serve are healthy; have a stable and safe place to live; find a purpose they find meaningful for their life; and experience support, friendship, love and hope.
