Hunter McQuistion, MD, is the medical director of psychiatry education and special initiatives at the Institute for Community Living (ICL). In this role, he oversees the development of educational programs for medical staff, primarily advanced practice psychiatric nurses. He is passionate about fostering the growth of psychiatric nurse practitioners and advancing their role in community mental health.
Dr. McQuistion’s commitment to improving mental health services extends beyond ICL. As a past president of the American Association for Community Psychiatry (AACP), he continues to advocate for innovative approaches to care delivery. His work with AACP focuses on developing educational initiatives and promoting psychiatry’s leadership role in complex behavioral health systems.
His research interests center on addressing the needs of underserved populations. He has conducted studies on the causes of recurrent homelessness, smoking cessation in individuals with severe mental illness and the impact of social determinants on mental health disparities. His goal is to collaborate with colleagues to develop evidence-based interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Dr. McQuistion is a recognized leader in the field of psychiatry and has been honored with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Exemplary Psychiatrist Award.
