Omar Fattal, MD, is a psychiatrist, advocate, senior public health administrator and community leader who has devoted his career to advancing health equity. He currently serves as the deputy chief medical officer and system chief of behavioral health at NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health system in the United States. Dr. Fattal is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University Grossman School of Medicine and a psychiatrist with the Pride Clinic at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. From 2010 to 2023, Dr. Fattal held a series of leadership roles in the department of psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital, culminating with the role of assistant chief of the Department of Psychiatry. He joined NYC Health + Hospitals Central Office in 2020 as the deputy medical director in the Office of Behavioral Health, a position he held until his promotion in 2023 to his current role.

He began his career in the Department of Psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic, where his accomplishments included establishing a Spanish-language clinic for Hispanic patients and an LGBTQ+ clinic. Dr. Fattal completed his residency in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic in 2005. He was selected for the Bellevue/New York University Public Psychiatry Fellowship (2011) and the Greater New York Hospital Association Clinical Quality Fellowship Program (2021). He is currently a member of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry. He is a 1999 graduate of the American University of Beirut Medical School, from which he also holds a master’s in public health.

In 2012, Dr. Fattal co-founded the Lebanese Medical Association for Sexual Health (LebMASH), an organization of health care professionals that aims to achieve equity in health, with a focus on sexual health and the health of marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community. Through landmark research, evidenced-based training, and informed advocacy, LebMASH has emerged as one of the most influential voices for health equity in Lebanon and across the Arab region.
