Public Safety
At the federal, state and local level, individuals and systems in the public safety arena focus on preventing danger and protecting citizens, communities and organizations.
Their work is often intertwined with overdose prevention and harm reduction work, both because much substance use and harm reduction is illegal or not entirely legal, and because public safety is often the first line of response for someone suffering the negative effects of substance use.
In the following resources, “public safety” encompasses systems focused on crime prevention, disaster response, arrest and incarceration, and more, and can represent the local, state or federal level.
