First Responder Deflection: A Warm Handoff to Services in the Community
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing has partnered with the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) to create a free e-course on first responder deflection featured on Relias Academy. Deflection initiatives are being implemented across the country to connect people who have substance use disorders to needed services without risking arrest. This seminal e-course from JCOIN introduces a collaborative, problem-solving approach for law enforcement and other first responders, substance use treatment providers and community partners.

About JCOIN
The Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) is a national effort to provide improved access and approaches to deliver high-quality care for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) across the justice system. As part of the National Institute of Health Helping to End Addiction Long-term® Initiative (NIH HEAL Initiative), JCOIN brings researchers and practitioners together to address the need for high-quality, evidence-based addiction treatment in justice settings and bridge gaps between researchers and practitioners to translate research into practice. JCOIN includes more than a dozen national hubs involved in studies that work toward generating evidence to address the needs of justice-involved individuals with OUD.
JCOIN also produces and makes available a range of e-courses, webinars, and other materials (including the Deflection e-course). To access courses, register your email account at https://www.jcoinctc.org/courses.
